ealing with anorexia nervosa also referred to as anorexia is more difficult than you think. Anorexia is when dieting gets out of hand and one tries to lose weight while they are already very thin. It is a physical disorder and as time goes by they become very obsessive and would do anything not to gain weight. people with anorexia find themselves fat, they are terrified to put on even an ounce.

Anorexia Nervosa

They have a distorted body image and find that they are still too fat, even though they are very thin they see themselves as fat.

Bulimia Nervosa is when they would eat lots of food in one sitting and binge, the binging is an everyday something, so don't confuse the two. Bulimic people are not as thin as people with anorexia.

Malnutrition and the rapid weight loss can cause them to be hospitalized.

Anorexia Nervosa Symptoms

This disorder begins at an adolescent stage during the teen years and affects mostly women. There are certain men that are affected, but it is usually women from wealthy descendants that show the most signs. The risk of developing Anorexia Nervosa or another type of eating disorder is very high among over achievers, like actors, models, people in athletics, figure skating or any type of activity where weight or appearance is very important.

According to the U.S National Institute of Mental Health, about 0.5% to 3.7% of women will suffer from this disorder sometime in their lives.

Symptoms:

  • Afraid to gain weight
  • Weigh much less than the average person
  • Obsessed about losing weight
  • Eat very little, always afraid to put on a pound
  • Feels fat even when they are underweight
  • Are very ill most of the time
  • Wears clothing much bigger then their size
  • Overuse of laxatives and diet pills
  • Show signs of depression and or anxiety
  • They are always tired, look very weak and have fainting spells
  • Hair Loss

Is There A Cure or Treatment?

Anyone suffering from anorexia needs treatment, the earlier you treat this eating disorder the better. Due to the fact that this is a physical and emotional disorder, you will have to seek the help of a physician or counselor. Anyone suffering from this disorder is at serious risk and it can result in death, you will need to seek professional help immediately.
